Scandinavian Fairy Tale Part 2

Scandinavian Fairy Tale Part 2
Kronborg castle, Helsingor Denmark & Helsingborg Sweden

Kronborg castle Hamlet's Castle Watching the Play Live

It was a cold damp day when we sat in the bus at Copenhagen. This day we were to travel to Sweden. Our journey began at about 8 am. We reached our first stop in just about an hour's drive . Helsingor. A small town in eastern Denmark. This place is popular for the Kronborg castle where Shakespeare's popular play Hamlet was set. We spent some time here. Kronborg is one of UNCESO's world heritage sites. We went inside the castle visited the royal apartments, ballrooms. One of the ballrooms hosted the hamlet play. The actors obliged to pose for a picture too. Enjoyed watching the play. Attaching a small clip below.

Kronborg Castle

Watching the screening of an English play at its very own inspired venue. One of the firsts.

Cruising to Sweden
Cruising to Sweden
How often do you take a ship to go to a new country ? Cruising to Sweden in less than 20 mins. A new country in just 20 mins. Insanely exciting isn't it ?
After Kronborg, our next stop was Helsingborg Sweden. We hopped on to the schooner boats. Schooner boats are similar to the Pirates boats as seen in the movie more like a smaller version of that. We waited for the sail to be raised but that never happened as Sweden was just 20 mins away and for that short a distance and hence it is usually not done. The Schooner boats had some cool drinks and soup on board for us. We reached Helsingborg, Sweden in less than 20 mins. Pretty much a similar looking city, however, there was penalty of flowers all around the city as they celebrated summer. Small pretty city with a population of about 120000. I remember our guide say about a lakh like may be little above the population of Koramangala ( a locality) in Bangalore :P

We walked down the city again a pretty cycle friendly place with dedicated cycle tracks. I was really fascinated by one of the cycle tracks here which a lane with trees on either side. How pretty!!

We walked along this town. Karnan a medieval tower in Helsingborg was one of our stops. One of the remains of the Medieval Danish fortress.

The weather here is another thing that I would like to mention. While we were in this city for about 3 hours we experience rains about thrice. You really enjoy the moving clouds and playing hide and seek with the sun. We relaxed for a while near the Karnan under the sun for a while until it started to drizzle. Reading your favorite book amidst such greenery was truly a delight.

Past this, we hopped onto the bus to head back to Copenhagen. This journey was again a remarkable one. The Oresund bridge drive.  Oresund bridge connects Denmark and Sweden. This bridge runs about 8 km. 4km in within the sea. This is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe.

Below is an aerial view of the same.

It was indeed a great day. A check-in into 2 countries in a day. Past this, we went shopping at the supermarkets. There was 7 eleven and 2 other shoppers near our hotel. These supermarkets are great to pick up some danish cookies to take back home.
The day was still not over. As I earlier mentioned the days are long. We then went to HRC Hard Rock Cafe Copenhagen.  Most shopping areas in the city close by 6.30, however, the restaurants and cafe are open until midnight. Yes, we were also lucky to watch live music while we waited to get a table. A good meal and a great day had ended.
